Capsule Geology

The Lower Canyon area is underlain by volcanics and volcaniclastics of the Lower Jurassic Hazelton Group, Telkwa Formation. On the property, an andesitic to dacitic crystal-lithic tuff is predominant. In the southwest portion of the property a Lower Jurassic Topley Intrusion of calcalkaline composition is present. Quartz-feldspar porphyry dikes and later lamprophyric dikes are also present. Mineralization in the area appears related to shear and fault zones.

Prospecting in 2008 and 2009 by Ron Bilquist determined that there is an extensive fault zone in the Telkwa River canyon area stretching for a least 2.5 kilometres and with a width of about 750 metres. Very strong copper mineralization with occasional lead and zinc has been noted throughout this zone (Assessment Report 31302).

Copper mineralization in the Lower Canyon is found both in place and in float boulders (Assessment Report 30927 and 31302). All outcrops in the canyon were highly fractured and sheared indicating a very an extensive zone of shearing and faulting - likely the north-north west extension of the shearing and faulting noted near the drill site in the Upper Camp zone. Mineralization noted was mainly chalcopyrite and malachite with lesser azurite. The outcrops in the northern area of the lower canyon are generally reddish colored porphyritic volcanics which are propylitically altered and, contain locally pervasive malachite; the rocks are often totally green in color. A sample of grey, cherty volcanic rock (possibly rhyolite) containing malachite, chalcopyrite and pyrite assayed greater than 1 per cent copper and 1 gram per tonne silver (Assessment Report 31302).

The zone may extend to the Main Shear (093L 072) and the Upper Camp showing area. Refer to Tel (093L 072) for related work history and Property File information.
